Traditional Values, Modern Practice
The Estate extends to 13,000 acres of which 7,000 acres is sustainable woodland; there is a grouse moor of 4,000 acres and a substantial area of land is under arable farming and beef production. Altyre also comprises 40 residential properties, an exceptional stable courtyard, an historic timber church and a portfolio of striking architectural assets. Together, they form part of a traditional and classic estate economy encompassing farming, forestry and timber products, residential lettings, business space and land lease.
Following a long tradition of enterprise, Sir Alastair Gordon Cumming is now investing and diversifying to ensure long-term stability and sustainability and to grow activity and employment on the Estate. This far reaching programme of renewal and innovation involves the creation of new enterprise, the fostering of local employment and procurement, the development of a renewable energy source and the re-development and re-use of redundant assets within a commercial template guided by an ethical and ‘green’ philosophy.
This evolution of Altyre and its development as a leading rural champion in the Moray economy is planned to synchronise, wherever possible and practical, with the strategic investment, economic and enterprise goals of HIE and the Moray Council. Altyre has a range of land, building and environmental assets which offer the opportunity for the Estate to meet HIE-Moray objectives both independently as a stand alone private entrepreneur and in partnership with public sector investors to build social, economic and environmental capital in the sub-region.
