We've got the power
Altyre has already put in place first stage infrastructure for estate-wide bio-mass energy production and over the next three years will explore opportunities for ‘export’ throughout Moray at large. The installation is part funded by the Scottish Biomass Support Scheme and the intention is that Altyre will use its extensive natural resources to become an exporter locally of wood chips. Supplied from its own renewable woodland, the bio-mass plant will in phase 1 provide the energy source for the Altyre Business Centre at Blairs Farm and for Altyre House. Biomass forms part of an integrated renewables strategy intended to embrace wind power, hydro and ground sourced heat.
An application is in place currently with the Scottish Executive for the installation of 29 wind turbines on Berry Burn. A viability study is also under way for a modest hydro scheme drawing power from the Altyre Burn with the intention of direct export in to the Grid.
