Promoting Enterprise and Partnership
Altyre is situated two miles south of the centre of Forres off the A 940 and three miles from the junction with the A96 the main east - west arterial route connecting the two primary economies of northern Scotland at Inverness and Aberdeen. The Estate is fifteen miles from Inverness Airport and 20 miles from the city centre. It is 78 miles from Aberdeen, the most populous and wealthiest centre of settlement in Northern Scotland. However, the ‘Aberdeenshire’ economy is far closer and developing commercial activity in this market, as well as throughout the Highlands and Moray, is a prime objective of the Estate.
Altyre is well placed to achieve this objective. It is located between the chief local centres of Elgin and Nairn. Elgin is a strategic economic hub with a planned programme of public and private investment. The Estate is developing opportunities to connect with this growth. Altyre is also well situated to synchronise with the emerging development of the new University for the Highlands and Islands (UHI) which has a strong base locally at Moray College in Forres and at its main campus at Inverness. A number of Altyre’s enterprise and development aims fit closely with those of key public agencies such as Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). We believe partnership between the private and public sectors is an essential means of the region working its way through recession into sustainable economic recovery. Altyre has assets which can help enable this.
