ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

Altyre House & Garden

Designed by W L Carruthers, c1895, the house was originally built as the ‘Parsonage’, the clergy residence for the Episcopal chapel close by: note the gable mounted bell, rung as a call to worship.

The house was enlarged in 1931 and re-named Blairs House, later Altyre House, replacing the original mansion demolished in 1962.

The Garden was created by the present Laird’s mother forty years ago, with the little hump-back bridge erected in 2000 to mark the millenium.
