Game, Set and Match
Altyre has been at the centre of Forres and Moray life for hundreds of years and today it continues to enjoy and develop its relationship with the local community. The church remains a much sought after venue for local weddings and family services as well as a continuing place of regular worship.
The ‘club rooms’ at Blairs Farm Steading have since their inception over 150 years ago provided a much loved and much used venue for community activities as diverse as Ceilidhs, social events, family celebrations, boxing and cricket matches (serving for a time as the pavilion to a former cricket pitch opposite the church) and for a host of informal gatherings and formal meetings. As part of the redevelopment of the Steading the club rooms will be restored, re-equipped and will continue to be made available for community use.
New ventures will see the estate increase visitor access. Plans for a Clan Cumming Heritage Centre and for viewing Altyre’s wildlife and terrain at close hand will re-affirm and grow its relationship with the local community and with visitors and ‘green tourists’ but on a managed and sensible scale that does not compromise or overwhelm Altyre’s ability to remain a welcoming and attentive host.
